American Assassin Book Description

For those who have not seen the description for Vince Flynn's new book, American Assassin yet, here it is in all its glory:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn returns with yet another explosive thriller, introducing the young Mitch Rapp, as he takes on his first assignment.

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorist's worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world . . . and then tragedy struck.

Two decades of cutthroat, partisan politics has left the CIA and the country in an increasingly vulnerable position. Cold War veteran and CIA Operations Director Thomas Stansfield knows he must prepare his people for the next war. The rise of Islamic terrorism is coming, and it needs to be met abroad before it reaches America's shores. Stansfield directs his protÉgÉe, Irene Kennedy, and his old Cold War colleague, Stan Hurley, to form a new group of clandestine operatives who will work outside the normal chain of command—men who do not exist.

What type of man is willing to kill for his country without putting on a uniform? Kennedy finds him in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Two-hundred and seventy souls perished that cold December night, and thousands of family and friends were left searching for comfort. Mitch Rapp was one of them, but he was not interested in comfort. He wanted retribution.

Six months of intense training has prepared him to bring the war to the enemy's doorstep, and he does so with brutal efficiency. Rapp starts in Istanbul, where he assassinates the Turkish arms dealer who sold the explosives used in the Pan Am attack. Rapp then moves onto Hamburg with his team and across Europe, leaving a trail of bodies. All roads lead to Beirut, though, and what Rapp doesn't know is that the enemy is aware of his existence and has prepared a trap. The hunter is about to become the hunted, and Rapp will need every ounce of skill and cunning if he is to survive the war-ravaged city and its various terrorist factions.

As action-packed, fast-paced, and brutally realistic as it gets, Flynn's latest page-turner shows readers how it all began. Behind the steely gaze of the nation's ultimate hero is a young man primed to become an American Assassin.

American Assassin by Vince Flynn (Mitch Rapp Style)

Well, at last, us Vince Flynn fans now know the name of Vince Flynn's twelfth book to be released on October 12, 2010: AMERICAN ASSASSIN. Now I'll admit that when I first saw the name, I thought my name was better: "Path of Vengeance". But the more I see "American Assassin", the more I like it.

This doesn't even mention the fact that the Cover Art for American Assassin has also been released and you can find it here: AMERICAN ASSASSIN COVER ART

It seems so simple, but actually it is one of my favorites already. Nice simple, yet very effective design. I think they did a great job with it.

With that said, we currently only have a very short synopsis into what this book is really about:

"Follow Mitch Rapp, as he takes on his first, explosive counterterrorism assignment."

--Atria Books, 2010

And in all honesty, that's all I need to see! "Mitch Rapp...counterterrorism assignment" ... do you honestly need to know anymore??? ;)

Anyway, as we continue our countdown to the release of American Assassin (155 days and counting), I can't help but wonder if that will be the title of the second movie of the Mitch Rapp Movie Franchise, once Consent to Kill hits the big screen. :)

Mitch Rapp Casting Study for Consent to Kill Movie

Well, as some of you know, TheThirdOption.net - The World of Vince Flynn is conducting a scientific study into who should be cast for the Mitch Rapp character in the upcoming movie Consent to Kill.

Serving as the administrator of this site, I scientifically (or fill in whatever word you like) selected a list of actors that have been mentioned on TheThirdOption.net of who fans would like to see play Mitch Rapp in a movie. I then established a poll for all of Vince Flynn's fans to take part in and vote for the actor they feel should play Mitch Rapp.

This poll gives us some insight into who Vince Flynn fans are thinking of when they read about Mitch Rapp's adventures.

The names listed in the poll are:

Christian Bale - 0 (0%)
Eric Bana - 10 (8.9%)
Gerard Butler - 24 (21.4%)
James Caviezel - 7 (6.3%)
Jeffrey Donovan - 4 (3.6%)
Colin Farrell - 8 (7.1%)
John Hamm - 6 (5.4%)
Hugh Jackman - 5 (4.5%)
Thomas Jane - 3 (2.7%)
Alex O'Laughlin - 1 (0.9%)
Johnny Messner - 2 (1.8%)
Clive Owen - 2 (1.8%)
Brad Pitt - 1 (0.9%)
Jason Statham - 3 (2.7%)
Karl Urban - 3 (2.7%)
Mark Wahlberg - 5 (4.5%)
Unknown Actor - 22 (19.6%)
Oded Fehr - 5 (4.5%)
David Borneaz - 1 (0.9%)

Total Voters: 112

As you can see, as of today, March 21, 2010, we have already received 112 votes.

So let's take a look at the top five choices to help us narrow in on who should play Mitch Rapp:

1) Gerard Butler - 24 votes (21.4% of all votes)
2) Unknown Actor - 22 votes (19.6% of all votes)
3) Eric Bana - 10 votes (8.9% of all votes)
4) Colin Farrell - 8 votes (7.1% of all votes)
5) James Caviezel - 7 votes (6.3% of all votes)

Now, let's add into this study the latest information reported about who CBS Films is seeking to cast as Mitch Rapp.

As reported from Deadline.com, CBS Films is narrowing in on a few actors:

1) Gerard Butler (the front runner)
2) Colin Farrell
3) Matthew Fox

Of course, Vince Flynn has also stated that he prefers Gerard Butler for the Mitch Rapp part.

-------------------
Now let's do a comparative analysis :)

TheThirdOption.net:

1) Gerard Butler
2) Unknown Actor
3) Eric Bana
4) Colin Farrell
5) James Caviezel

CBS Films:

1) Gerard Butler (the front runner)
2) Colin Farrell
3) Matthew Fox

Vince Flynn's choice:
1) Gerard Butler

I find it rather interesting that two of the three actors that CBS Films is looking at are ranked #1 and #4 (really #3 for specifically named actors) in our TTO poll! I'd like to think that us Vince Flynn fans know what we're talking about :) ...although my vote was for a relatively unknown who only received one vote. But that's besides the point!
-----------------------------

Drum roll...

So, it is my conclusion that based on this scientific study, the actor that should be cast as Mitch Rapp in the upcoming Consent to Kill move is:

Gerard Butler

So, to CBS Films...I hope you seriously review this study and understand who Vince Flynn and his fans want for the casting of Mitch Rapp.

Now, you make ask, 'Well what if all these crazy Vince Flynn fans just want Gerard Butler because Vince Flynn wants Gerard Butler?'

...well what I say to you is: it's in the noise...IT IS IN THE NOISE :)

Consent to Kill Movie Director Antoine Fuqua is in Da' House (the Mitch Rapp House that is...)!

As many of you have now heard, Variety.com reported on Monday, January 11, 2010, that Antoine Fuqua will be directing the upcoming movie Consent to Kill, based on Vince Flynn's excellent Mitch Rapp series books! Well, as noted above, I would now like to welcome Antoine Fuqua into Mitch Rapp's house (which will now be referred to as, "Da' House").

So to Antoine Fuqua, I congratulate you on this wonderful announcement and look forward to the surprise and wonder that you will create for all of us Mitch Rapp fans out there. However, as you are now in Da' House, I thought it was only appropriate to give you some tips on Mitch Rapp...or better yet, lay out some facts as noted in a previous blog entitled: "Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp Prequel / Mitch Rapp Facts".

Now, the important thing for you is to concentrate on the second part of this previous blog pertaining to the Top 10 Mitch Rapp Facts. Let me be clear, please do not miss #8.

8. Upon hearing a director discuss who would play him in an upcoming movie, Mitch Rapp killed the producer, the director, and all the candidates. No one plays Mitch Rapp.

So, as I, and many others want to see a new Mitch Rapp movie hit the big screen, i.e. your now upcoming movie, Consent to Kill, we will all be very, very, veeerrry quiet so that Mitch Rapp does not find out about this wonderful news and attempt to thwart our goal.

However, if he does find out, I just hope you can persuade him that Consent to Kill will win the following Academy Awards: Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Mitch Rapp of course), and Best Picture. I think maybe then he'll forgive you and allow the movie to happen.

In all seriousness, I want to wish you the best with your future work on Consent to Kill. I know it will turn out fantastic and that you will be true to the Mitch Rapp character and introduce many, many others, into DA' HOUSE!!!

Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp Prequel / Mitch Rapp Facts

So tonight I got to thinking about Mitch Rapp and what it was like when he first joined the CIA. Of course the reason I was thinking about this is because Vince Flynn's next book will be about Mitch Rapp in his younger days. Speaking of which, in Vince Flynn's latest newsletter, he discusses this very point:

It's the birth of Rapp... how he was recruited and trained, his first kill and his first act of insubordination that lands him in the ultimate snake pit. His superiors back in D.C. know he has some unique talents, but even they could not have guessed just how brutally efficient he would be at bringing the fight to the enemy.

As this next book will most likely be released in October 2010, just as most of his previous books have, I am left wondering about Mitch Rapp...and then I remembered the Top Ten Mitch Rapp Facts that TheThirdOption.net developed together years ago - November 2006! I cannot believe it has been three years already.

Well here they are for your viewing pleasure, if you have not seen these yet. Enjoy!

Top 10 Mitch Rapp Facts
1. If Mitch Rapp's gun jams, it's because he wanted to beat you with it.
2. Once, someone tried to tell Mitch Rapp a "knock knock" joke. Mitch Rapp found out who was there, who they worked for, and where the f***in' bomb was.
3. Mitch Rapp does not get taken prisoner. He puts himself in a disadvantageous position so as to make his next several killings more dramatic.
4. You're either with Mitch Rapp, or you're...you don't want to know.
5. There was once an entire army sent to kill Mitch Rapp. "There was once" says all you need to know.
6. Mitch Rapp is not Politically Correct. He is just Correct. Always.
7. Count from one to ten. That's how long it would take Mitch Rapp to kill you....47 times.
8. Upon hearing a director discuss who would play him in an upcoming movie, Mitch Rapp killed the producer, the director, and all the candidates. No one plays Mitch Rapp.
9. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Mitch Rapp can actually go back in time and kill you yesterday.
10. It's no use crying over spilt milk...unless that was Mitch Rapp's milk. Oh you are so screwed!

-------------------------------------

Who knows, maybe in Flynn's next book we'll see what happens when someone really does spill Mitch Rapp's milk. :)
